About
Aquascene is owned and managed by local Darwin people. The owner is a third generation Territorian and I have lived in Darwin since long before cyclone Tracey and was here for the re-birth of Darwin and surrounds, when Casuarina was the furthest suburb from the city.
I have been the manager her for 18 months and have to say it is the most soul restoring place to work. The bay is beautiful….even when the tide is out and it is a mud flat, there are always ships passing by, or birds looking for prey in the mud. There is nothing better than getting out of the office for 10 minutes and watching the world go past! Even the regular cleaning chores are made easier in a perfect environment. You would never believe that we are located on the fringe of the city, as you can’t hear the traffic noises, just the beautiful calming sounds of nature. Bliss!
We have worked very hard and obtained our Eco Certificate of which we are very proud. I have lots of plans for the future and some of them are coming to fruition.
We have had 2 couples marry in a civil service in the grounds, outside opening hours. We provide a more intimate space with either rain forest as the backdrop or if the tide is still high enough sea views. Our brides have been thrilled with the location and say it is far more personal than in a public place with added spectators.
I am also changing the kiosk, along with soft drinks and ice creams, we like to have different souvenirs at reasonable cost. I also look for “granny gifts” on my buying trips. “Granny Gifts” are something small for the grandies (who we always buy for) that we can put in the suitcase or throw in our handbag and not worry about getting broken. We have great T-shirts, magnets and wind chimes along with all sorts of marine souvenirs and postcards.
